FUNCTION

The function of the Library and Information Center is to select, acquire, organize, and provide access to high quality information resources on public health; provide instruction and guidance to ensure effective retrieval and use of information to achieve the school's teaching, learning and research goals, and to meet the medical community's demand.

SPECIFIC TASKS

  • Acquire, organize, manage and preserve collections and information resources appropriate to HSPH’s needs;
  • Develop a program of bibliographic instruction, demonstrating literature searching techniques and strategies;
  • Provide specific consultation services and liaison programs by working with faculty to identify evidence-based information at the point of need;
  • Promote, instruct and provide guidance for users;
  • Support the instructional needs of faculty, students and staff of HSPH and to improve their information seeking behavior through education and training;
  • Provide high quality library services with:
    • Circulation, interlibrary loan;
    • Online, email and face-to-face reference services;
    • Photocopy and textbook lending services;
  • Educate users in information retrieval and information management techniques:
    • Workshops every Friday with such topics as: Basic searching skills; Searching and evaluating public health information resources; Searching techniques for particular databases such as HINARI, PubMed, EBSCO; Citing and referencing skills;
    • Information literacy classes for undergraduate and graduate students as part of curriculum;
  • Create integrated, organized, friendly, easy-to-use access to information resources in all formats;
  • Collaborate in cooperative information services networks in Vietnam for resource sharing and information gathering;
  • Maximize the use and quality of the library’s information resources by creating the most desirable atmosphere to study and conduct literature research;
  • Promote and publicize the library’s programs, resources and services;
  • Expand international relations and provide career development opportunities for staff.
