The faculty of basic sciences was formed at the same time with Hanoi School of Public Health in April, 26th 2001. The faculty consists of basic departments of epidemiology, biostatistics and IT, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology.
The faculty provides training on quantitative sciences applied in public health sector. The faculty's core subjects such as epidemiology, biostatistics, IT which have been providing for all training types in Hanoi school of public health are considered to play a critical role in making evidence-based public health policies. Besides, the faculty also provides short courses on research methodology, epidemiology and data analysis for different people as needed.
Apart from training, the faculty also operates two research facilities of Hanoi school of public health: Chi Linh field laboratory - CHILILAB (in Chi Linh district, Hai Duong province) and The Center for Injury Prevention and Policy Research (CIPPR). In addition, research activities and IT application in communication, development and management of training activities, as well as seeking for new teaching methods are also the faculty's main activities.
To enhance the effectiveness, the faculty has been integrating different subjects in teaching and research activities for both BPH and MPH students. The faculty's research activities will be promoted through the application of research findings in public health teaching and policy making in Vietnam.
The faculty has young and competent staff. There are 21 staff, 4 of them hold PhD qualifications, 8 of them hold MA qualifications obtained from universities of high-ranking public health program in England, USA, Australia, Netherlands... Besides, experts from the affiliate national research institutions participate in teaching activities.
One of the faculty's strength is international collaboration. At present, the faculty has been working in collaboration with several organizations and people around the world in curriculum design, teaching, and public health research.
